Welcome to the 20th edition of Smartspaces!

Re-learning or diving into something new? (we have something for you :))

Hi everyone! This is Smartspaces 20th newsletter šŸ„³

We hope weā€™ve helped encourage you to explore a new topic, dive deep into a field of interest and generally, learn something new.

Finding new talks and events each week (+ the data from our frequent poll responses) has made us consider deliberately what kind of talks we should 1) look for and 2) share on smrtspace.xyz. What talks do you want to hear? Mostly we were considering readers in two main scenarios: 1) those who want to discover a ā€˜brand newā€™ topic or 2) to gain more expertise in their existing field of work/study/interest.

I came across a great blog post that made me really interested and excited about another likely segment of curious Smartspaces readers (see extensive HN discussion). In this essay, Gabe Mays shares his journey re-learning math on Math Academy.

For hard subjects like math, I always assumed the only ā€˜realā€™ way to learn was in dedicated environments like college since online courses were best for softer, less technical topics. This was a bummer, especially for adult students like me.

Gabe Mays

Mays, founder of an AI startup, mentions his desire to start re-learning math stems from his desire to more deeply understand the machine learning concepts heā€™s working with (namely LLMs & transformers) that require a solid mathematical foundation.

What are the subjects that you want to go back to? Maybe an elective you took once or a hobby subject that you stopped having time forā€¦

Perhaps a talk on Smartspaces can be the spark to get you back into it! āœØ
