New Environments & Great Events :)

👋 Hi all!

How does your environment foster ambition, creativity and curiosity?

I recently re-read, Paul Graham’s 2008 essay Cities and Ambition (strongly recommend) where he talks about the impact of the ‘messages’ different cities send on the people who move there and live there.

For many of us, for a number of reasons, moving cities can be a high threshold but there are still things we can do to stimulate our ambition. One way is by frequently changing your environment and seeking out places that make you feel a certain way (e.g. energized, curious, young, or simply places where people are working on something.

I’m writing this from a major university library in the United States and, as someone who graduated a while ago, it’s been so refreshing. Students studying, meeting professors, working together, making plans, joking around - it’s a nice reminder to change from my usual environments.

Different ambitious energy can be found all over - co-working spaces, meetups, coffee shops, bars, traveling, even a particularly stimulating office environment. If you work and think from the same place(s) everyday, we’d recommend changing it up and see how it effects you!
