Smartspaces #2 - Your weekly lighthouse to discover the best STEM & AI Events
30 events this week including a live talk with Yann leCun and the SOSV Climate Tech Summit - for free!
Welcome to the second edition of Smartspaces!
This week we already aggregated 30 events to satisfy your curiosity and urge to find the next rabbit hole to dive into. We have integrated your feedback and pointed out our highlights for this week at the top of the newsletter - but interests come in all sizes and shapes, so do not let us influence you in your intellectual discovery & entertainment 🤓 Read through the end - we have a small surprise 🎁
Let’s start with a quick energizer - a game of truth or lie!
🔍 Truth or Lie? The Serendipity of Science!
Before diving into the events of the week, let's flex those brain muscles. Below are three tales of scientific serendipity, but tread carefully, for one of them is a fabrication! Can you spot the lie?
Microwave Revelations: Percy Spencer, while working with a magnetron, discovered that a candy bar in his pocket had melted. This unexpected observation led to the creation of the microwave oven.
Glowing Waters: Marie Curie, during her studies on radioactive elements, once accidentally spilled a chemical compound that made an entire river glow in the dark for years.
Sticky Situation: Spencer Silver, aiming to develop a super-strong adhesive, ended up with a weak one. This "mistake" later became the key component of Post-it Notes when Art Fry used it to bookmark his hymn sheets.
Which story do you think is the fictional one? Ponder or dive directly into this weeks events.
